Canadian-Owned and Proudly Manufacturing in Edmonton
Ben Blinds manufactures custom window blinds at our facility in Edmonton, Alberta, and ships them across Canada – including Ottawa and the National Capital Region. Every blind is cut to the measurements you provide, using the same premium materials and manufacturing process we use for every Alberta customer. No local showroom yet, no in-home visit – just a free measuring guide, a free quote, and a blind built specifically for your window.
How We Serve Ottawa Right Now
We do not yet have a showroom or installation team in Ottawa. What we do have is a fully equipped manufacturing facility in Edmonton producing custom blinds to the same standard we deliver across Alberta, and a straightforward process for ordering them remotely: you measure your own windows using our free guide, we manufacture your blind to those exact measurements, and it ships to your door by courier with a step-by-step installation guide. Most blinds – roller, zebra, honeycomb, and venetian styles – install with a screwdriver in under fifteen minutes per window, using the same wall or window-frame brackets your existing blinds likely use.
If you would rather not measure yourself, send us clear photos of each window along with rough dimensions, and our team will review them by phone before your order is finalised – we will tell you honestly if your specific window looks better suited to a local installer than a self-install kit, before you commit to anything.

Why Ottawa Homeowners Choose Ben Blinds
Insulation for Heritage Homes
Many homes in Ottawa’s older neighbourhoods – the Glebe, Westboro, Centretown, Sandy Hill, and New Edinburgh – date from roughly 1890 to 1940, often with original wood-frame, single-pane windows paired with aluminum storm windows. These windows are typically draftier than newer construction. Honeycomb cellular blinds add a meaningful layer of insulation at the window without altering the heritage character of the home or requiring any permit, since nothing about the window itself changes.
Condo-Compliant Fabrics for the Downtown Core
Downtown Ottawa and the areas surrounding it have a significant number of condo towers. Like most Canadian condo buildings, exterior window covering appearance is commonly governed by the condo corporation’s rules. Our roller and zebra ranges include compliant white and off-white fabric options.
A Winter as Cold as Edmonton’s
Ottawa’s winter heating season is comparable in length and severity to Edmonton’s. The same insulating honeycomb structure that matters for Alberta homes carries the same value here.

Ottawa Heritage Homes and Window Coverings
Ottawa’s older central neighbourhoods carry a distinct housing character – original wood sash windows, single-pane glass, and storm window combinations that were standard when these homes were built. Replacing the windows themselves in a heritage-designated property can mean navigating the City of Ottawa’s Heritage Planning requirements, which generally prioritise repair over replacement. Adding a well-insulated blind is a much simpler way to reduce the draft and heat loss those older windows let through, without touching the window or needing any heritage approval, since the blind sits entirely inside the home.
If you’re in a condo rather than a heritage house, check your building’s rules on window covering appearance before ordering – most Ottawa condo boards expect a consistent look from the street, usually white or off-white facing outward.

Self-Measuring and Order Support
We provide written guides for every blind type, covering inside mount, outside mount, and the deduction allowances each format needs. Heritage homes in particular can have non-standard frame depths or older, slightly uneven window openings – if anything about your specific windows looks unusual, call us before ordering. We will tell you honestly if your project is better suited to a local installer than a shipped self-install kit.

Frequently Asked Questions - Custom Blinds Ottawa
Does Ben Blinds have a showroom or installer in Ottawa?
Not yet. We are an Edmonton-based manufacturer shipping custom blinds across Canada, including Ottawa and the National Capital Region. There is no local showroom or installation team in Ottawa at this time. Every order ships from our Edmonton facility with a self-installation guide.
Can someone come measure my windows in Ottawa?
Not currently. We provide a free printable measuring guide for every blind type, and our team can review photos and rough measurements with you by phone before your order ships. This is especially useful for heritage homes with older, non-standard window openings – we’ll tell you upfront if a local installer may be the better option.
How long does shipping take to Ottawa?
Production and shipping timelines are confirmed when you place your order, since they depend on the blind type and fabric you choose. We will give you a clear timeline before you commit to anything.
Will a honeycomb blind work in my heritage home without affecting the window itself?
Yes. The blind is mounted inside your home, either inside the window recess or on the wall or frame above it – it doesn’t alter the window, frame, or exterior in any way. This means it generally doesn’t require heritage approval, though we’d always recommend checking with your specific situation if your home is under a heritage designation.
What does the warranty cover?
All Ben Blinds products are covered against manufacturing defects on materials and mechanisms for 3 years. Because self-installed orders are fitted by the customer, the warranty does not cover damage caused during installation.
